Homemade planer

Homemade jointer, rummageinthegarage

I am surprised with this small electric hand planer. I told you in the post homemade jointer that I had made peace with it now that I can use it as a jointer. But now that I can use it as a planer ... well, now I love it (nearly) as much as I love my routers. I´ve been sometime thinking where to "find" 300€ to buy a cheap planer, but with this mounting I can wait to buy one. With this homemade jointer I will save some money, because I can buy cheap wood in a local sawmill instead of buying more expensive wood, jointed (or even planed if I need it) in a DIY center. In addition, because we can give our wood the right dimmensions and a nice surface, we will save a lot of sanding time.

Easy to make miter saw station

Miter saw station, rummage in the garage
Some months ago I bought a Parkside miter saw in Lidl supermarket and I must say I am quite happy with it (I can´t say the same about the Parkside electric stapler which is continuously blocking). I still need to adjust it and, but the most important was to prepare a place or make some kind of station to put it and use it. So far I always had to free some space on a table to use it, and after I use it my shop was a mess with all the sawdust it generates. It is easy to move this machine from here to there, but the best option is to have a permanent place for it.

How to easy cut a dovetail joint, both tails and pins, in the homemade router table

How to route dovetail joints with a router table,
After my first experiment and mistakes cutting a dovetail joint, I  cut the tails in hardwood with my homemade router table. As you can see in the pictures I got a more than satisfactory result, with clean cuts. This is a joint that it is usual to find in quality pieces of furniture with quality wood, and it is senseless to make all the work needed to cut this joint using a very low quality wood.

Circular saw miter cut jig

Circular saw miter cut jig, rummageinthegarage
Joining together two pieces of wood at a 45º angle or miter cut doesn´t seem to be a very difficult task. What can go wrong?. Well, almost everything. This is because you need to be very precise when you measure and when you cut or you won´t get a nice join.

Homemade jointer

How to make a planer with your electric hand planer,
Probably you already now that I don´t like  my electric hand jointer at all. I don´t think it is safe and easy to joint wood with it. For me it is very difficult to flatten any piece of wood with it and I feel I would need a lot of practice to avoid cutting too much in some parts of my working piece, mainly in the head of the board.

How to make a router table

Router lift attached to the router table, rummageinthegarage
May be this is not enough for a professional carpenter, but as a woodworker with a garage shop, a router table to make my projects and to improve the possibilities of my small shop is something I long wished. Next is to make the fence, but I´ll show you that in another post. You can go to Woodworking tag to see how I made a double sliding fence.

How to make a router lift for a plunge router

Home made router lift for plunge router, rummageinthegarage
When we buy our first router and we use it for the first time, we discover all the possibilities it has and we realize it is a tool that will take our shop to the next level. After searching  for more information in Internet and YouTube we know that the next we need is a router table. That will really increase the possibilities of our shop. But when we see the prices we realize that a router table will cost even more than the router itself and some of us can´t afford it. I doesn´t matter at all!, we just need a simple table, a piece of board and four screws to make a home made router table. But now it happens that it is very difficult to regulate the height of the router bits. And a router lift is usually very expensive, too, and I am not sure they can be attached to a plunge router easily.

Store small pieces inside crystal jars

Crystal jars used to store things, www.rummageinthegarage.blogspot.comGradually one collects small pieces in the shop and doesn´t know how to store them. I  mean all that screws, nails, nuts, washers, bits, hinges, locks ... that seems to mess up and hide without need of human help.
